The wide-ranging package on climate change, approved by the EU, focuses on three key targets set to be achieved by the year 2020:
- 20% greenhouse gas emissions cuts
- 20% minimum share of renewables in the energy mix
- 20% increase in energy efficiency
These issues are the focus of the first REM 2012 Conference & Exhibition. The whole energy industry, related contractors and service companies will present examples of and comment on actions and research activities leading towards innovative, cost efficient and environmentally friendly and effective contributions which focus on achieving this target.
The first Renewable Energy Mediterranean Conference closed on Thursday 1st March. The event attracted 330 participants, which included 180 delegates and 70 exhibitors representing 15 companies.
Having launched the first successful edition of the Renewable Energy Mediterranean Conference, Ravenna aims at playing a leading role in the renewable sector, and consolidating its reputation as a key city in the Energy sector. Ravenna has achieved this reputation through the years with the success of the Offshore Mediterranean Conference, which is the major oil & gas event in the Mediterranean region.
The two day conference attracted National and International Energy companies from the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors. They presented studies, pilot projects and production technologies in the field of solar, wind, wave, geothermal energy as well as biofuels and other constant renewable energy resources. Compared to other “pure renewable events” REM also involved oil and gas companies in the discussion, given the important investments they are undertaking in the renewable sector , and the significant role gas is playing and will be playing in the future as the most environmental friendly fossil fuel.
Bearing in mind the EU 202020 targets, the invited speakers highlighted the contribution that all Energy resources can give to reduce emissions, improve efficiency and reach a new Energy mix.
There was a particular appreciation for the projects presented by foreign delegations coming from Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia.
All presentations are now available and can be downloaded from the downloads section of this website.
A special thanks goes to the Programme Committee for identifying the distinguished panelists and speakers, to the sponsors who supported us in organising the event, and to the exhibitors and all the participants who joined us in Ravenna.
Finally we wish to thank the Municipality of Ravenna, and the Department for Environmental Protection for allowing our guests to enjoy a fascinating guided tour of Ravenna’s best mosaics - San Vitale and Galla Placidia.
